Eligibility and training

Eligible renters are Institute of Environment faculty and graduate students. A faculty sponsor is required for all rentals. Checkout requires workshop attendance and a proficiency exam, unless prior experience has already been demonstrated.

Riegl VZ-1000

Rented only with a GIS Center operator at $750 a day . There is no without-operator checkout.

Drones — first rental

First checkout needs a practicum (successful takeoff and landing). FAA Part 107 and FIU Policy 500.001 authorization ( drones@fiu.edu) are required before checkout.

Workshops

The GIS Center hosts two workshops per year on unit usage. Topics rotate across GNSS, TLS, total station, and drone operations.

Duration and travel

The charge is the number of calendar days the kit is out, at the per-unit daily rate.

  • Off-campus documents must be filed for use greater than 7 consecutive days, or for travel outside of South Florida.
  • International use is not offered through the standard checkout process and is considered only case by case.

How to request

Online calendar Recommended

Sign in with OTP, pick dates and kits on the Equipment Calendar, and submit. Faculty sponsor, training, and UAS acknowledgments are enforced at submit.
